History, Wine and Music

History, Wine and Music

Sonata Saturdays continue on Saturday, July 22nd with musical performances at 4pm and 5pm, a wine tasting with Corey Nuffer 2-4pm; and a special event with New Bedford's own John K. Bullard.

All events are free and open to the public.

Details are below.

HOMETOWN, A MEMOIR

Hometown is a memoir, and the first book from John K. Bullard, former mayor of New Bedford, who has devoted his career to bettering the health of the oceans and improving his hometown.

We are honored to host him on Saturday, July 22 for a book reading and signing from 1pm to 4pm.

HISTORY & PRESERVATION

Over the past year, Anthi has been part of the team restoring the property at 1 Johnny Cake Hill, New Bedford - a building that was once part of John Bullard's preservation work.

Learn more about its future and storied past: it moved from William Street to its current location after a disastrous gas explosion rocked our historic district in 1977, an event which features prominently in Hometown.

MUSIC

Arnot Duo: Anna Griffis, viola & Jensen Ling, bassoon
Performing at 4 & 5pm, Saturday, July 22

Violist Anna Griffis and bassoonist Jensen Ling highlight the pairing of two instruments with a natural affinity but very little music expressly written for them. This program spans the baroque to the 20th century with pieces arranged (or finagled) to fit the bassoon and viola.

Please note that to avoid the heat and humidity, the musical performances will be held INSIDE the New Bedford Whaling National Historical Park Visitor Center at 33 William Street.

Stay cool, stay dry and enjoy this FREE event.

WINE TASTING

Keep cool with Corey Nuffer inside The Drawing Room while she pours tastes of Champagne-method wines from 2-4pm on Saturday.

Books, wine and music. What could be better?
Make an afternoon of it.
We hope to see you there.
